In August of 2022, the Board of Directors of the Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District (CCCFPD)
voted unanimously to update the 2008 Community Wildfire Protection Plan for Coal Creek Canyon. A
consulting firm has been selected and the update is planned to start in February 2023.
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) identifies and prioritizes areas for hazardous fuel
reduction treatments and recommends the types and methods of treatment on private, county, state,
and Federal land, that will protect one or more at-risk communities and essential infrastructure and
recommends measures to reduce structural ignitability throughout the at-risk community. A CWPP
addresses issues such as wildfire response, hazard mitigation, community preparedness, evacuation
planning and structure protection. The CWPP is developed in the collaborative framework established
by the Wildland Fire Leadership Council and agreed to by state and local government, local fire
department, residents and other stakeholders, and federal land management agencies managing land
in, and adjacent to, the planning area.
Community meetings will be held, and announced well in advance, to acquire the input of Coal Creek
Canyon land and homeowners. A survey will also be distributed, to allow residents several opportunities
to make sure their concerns are heard and incorporated into the CWPP.
Residents of Coal Creek Canyon are invited to join the CWPP email master list. Sign up by visiting our
website at www.CoalCreekCWPP.org. Make sure to include name and address, please.
